Round 1

Picks 1-16
1. Titans: Cam Ward, QB, Miami

Ward has now become the overwhelming -3000 favorite to go #1 overall...is what I wrote on April 4. It became -20000 on April 5, and it remains so on April 14. Perhaps this changed when it was reported that the Titans and Sanders canceled a scheduled private workout. In any case, this is happening.

2. Browns: Travis Hunter, CB/WR, Colorado

Sanders, Carter, or Hunter here? If not Sanders, what is the Browns' plan at QB? They can't trade for Cousins and his cap hit because of Watson's enormous cap hit, not unless Atlanta was taking back Watson's contract, and why the hell would they do that? So if this isn't Sanders, I mean, are they thinking they can just get a QB at 33 or trade back into the 1st Round for, say, Dart or even Sanders? There's no way to know how that will unfold. This all said, Sanders has dropped to +1700 to be the pick, and Hunter is now a strong -310 favorite. Combined with the news that Jalen Milroe has accepted a draft invite, which was a big surprise, perhaps their plan is to get Milroe at 33 or via a small trade up into the late 1st (yikes!), and to reunite Milroe with new OC Tommy Rees. And I thought I was being aggressive in my last mock in predicting Milroe to the Jets in Round 2!

Bottom line? I'll make the switch to the two-way talents of Hunter, and it sounds like the Browns would be more interested in him as a WR. Browns fans, hope you enjoy Joe Flacco as your starter!

3. Giants: Abdul Carter, OLB, Penn State

Sanders is there in this mock now, but he wouldn't help the Giants immediately because Russell Wilson will be the starter, and for a regime on the hot seat, I have a hard time thinking that they would take a player that wouldn't help their cause (to retain their jobs) right away. So Carter is the obvious choice, although I suppose the Giants could listen if a team like the Panthers or 49ers wanted to make a huge offer to move up.

4. Patriots: Will Campbell, OT, LSU

If the board falls this way, Campbell moves all the way up from #11 to #4 in my mock. I think the club would prefer him to Membou, and I think they consider Campbell a LT. And even if he isn't, the team needs help all over the OL. As of April 14, Campbell has moved to the -175 betting favorite for this pick, and Campbell has now moved to -200 to be the first OL drafted.

5. Jaguars: Mason Graham, DT, Michigan

James Gladstone has talked about the need for a stronger DL as a part of his team-building philosophy, not surprising since he comes from the Rams front office. Graham is a strong -160 bet to be selected at #5, as of April 14.

6. Raiders: Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State

I still like Jeanty as a perfect fit for how Pete Carroll and Chip Kelly would like to play offense. The Raiders are now the betting favorite to be the team to draft him, for good measure. By the way, with the Geno Smith extension, it makes a possible pick of Sanders, should he be available, as extremely unlikely (though the team did take a top 30 with him). If this isn't Jeanty, I think the pick could be Will Johnson. The Raiders just released CB Jack Jones, the depth chart is murky, and both Tom Brady and new GM John Spytek went to Michigan.

Of note is that the team has met with both Jeanty and Johnson on top 30 visits.

7. Jets: Armand Membou, OT, Missouri

OL is the slight favorite for the Jets' first pick, and with Campbell gone, it would seem to put Membou in the driver's seat for the pick if the team does, indeed, choose to opt for a plug-and-play RT option. My next guess for the pick would be Tyler Warren.

8. Panthers: Jalon Walker, OLB, Georgia

Walker is at his best when he's attacking downhill, and as the Panthers can use help off the edge and at LB, perhaps the 99th-percentile athleticism will win the day here. The Panthers had Walker in on a top 30 visit, as well. It's worth noting that Charlie did report last month that both Mykel Williams and Shemar Stewart would be under consideration for this pick. I think this is too rich for Stewart now, but perhaps Williams would get the call if the Panthers preferred a more traditional edge player. However, I really like Walker here because he's drawing raves for leadership and character as well, and he could even be an option at 6 or 7.

9. Saints: Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado

QB is now the slight favorite for this pick, but it's pretty close between CB, DL, QB, TE, WR, and OL, with odds all between +250 and +600. So you can really argue for a whole slew of players here. The Saints are looking hard at this year's QB's, so, yeah, I think that Sanders could become a Saint. I think that Sanders' accuracy and processing skills will appeal to both Kellen Moore and Mickey Loomis, who could have visions of Drew Brees' best skills dancing in his head. Another note on Sanders is that he scheduled a top 30 visit with the Steelers, which absolutely suggests that he knows that he isn't going #2 overall to the Browns.

Another major plot twist: news that Derek Carr has a shoulder injury that threatens his availability for the entire 2025 season. Could this make a QB pick far more likely? Or, conversely, could the Saints consider, at long last, a full-scale rebuild by tanking and going for the top QB's next year? Forget the odds I listed above; QB is now a solid -150 favorite for the pick. Ultimately, I think Loomis will be swayed by the possible Brees comparison.

10. Bears: Tyler Warren, TE, Penn State

RB is the favorite for this pick, but that's because the Bears would rush the card to the podium if Jeanty were still there. I just don't believe that he will be. Although DL/OL have the next-best odds, I'm sticking with Warren as the TE1. LCB Tyrique Stevenson looks like the weak point of the defense, so if Johnson were on the board, I wonder if he could garner consideration, especially since the prevailing thought is that Johnson would work best in a zone-based defense where he can read and react, as opposed to playing sticky man-to-man coverage. (That's what new DC Dennis Allen runs.) Perhaps Barron could as well, though he may not be as clean of a fit as a boundary corner. And I can't rule out Kenneth Grant, especially since Charlie apparently has sources that some teams prefer Grant to his college teammate, Graham.

Warren is listed as -150 to be a top 10 pick, so we'll see.

11. 49ers: Kelvin Banks, OT/G, Texas

OL/DL are the overwhelming favorites for this pick, which makes total sense. As LT Trent Williams could be in his final year and as he seems like a more increased injury risk, and as LG is a gaping hole, this could be a good spot for Banks. If the team looked at DL instead, I'd expect Mykel Williams, Shemar Stewart, and Walter Nolen to be under serious consideration. The team has had Banks, Williams, and Nolen in for top 30 visits.

12. Cowboys: Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona

I'm going to go back to McMillan ahead of Golden for this pick, as McMillan's odds of being the first WR chosen (not counting Hunter) are back to -300, after it had been steadily dropping after the Combine, reaching a "low" of -180. I saw a theory that Golden's 4.29 time at the Combine might be fugazi, that the timer started a hair late, and that he didn't want to try to beat that time with a second run in Indy or at his Pro Day because he knew something was off. Interesting theory. In any case, with the odds back to -300, I'll go back to the Arizona man here.

13. Dolphins: Will Johnson, CB, Michigan

With CB listed among the favorites for Miami's pick (along with OL and DL), Johnson or Barron could be debated in this spot because the depth chart basically has Jalen Ramsey and a whole lot of nothing, and Ramsey himself is in the final year of his deal. I'll opt for Johnson, who has moved back to -180 to be the first CB chosen (not counting Hunter).

14. Colts: Colston Loveland, TE, Michigan

TE is the solid favorite for the Colts' pick, and it makes sense because their depth chart at the position is lacking. I'd expect OL if both Warren and Loveland are off the board, with Banks (if available) and Grey Zabel making the most sense. That said, Ballard loves his athletes, so I guess you couldn't rule out someone like Shemar Stewart or Nick Emmanwori. However, I think Ballard is really feeling the pressure and may be inclined to take someone who is more likely to help right away (Loveland) instead of a possible raw talent like Stewart or Emmanwori.

15. Rams: Jahdae Barron, CB, Texas

TRADE! Atlanta trades #15 to the Rams for #26, #90, and a 2026 2nd Round pick.

As I noted in my previous mock, Atlanta is a prime trade-down candidate because of its lack of draft capital this year. So I'll keep my same trade from that mock, with the Rams coming up to nab Barron, the star Texas DB. The Rams have taken an affinity to Texas players in recent years, which is well-documented.

16. Cardinals: Mykel Williams, DE, Georgia

DL and OL are the solid favorites for this pick, and I believe that Banks would have priority over any of the remaining edge players. But with Banks gone, I think that this could be a decision among the next tier of pass rushers. Between guys like Williams, Stewart, Green, and Ezeiruaku, I'll just guess that Williams has the most appeal to this team, and he is a -1000 bet to be taken in the 1st, which is significantly higher than the latter two on that 4-man list. And Williams' O/U for draft position is 15.5 with slight juice to the Over, so this feels appropriate.
