Many fan bases claim to be the best but how do they really stack up?

32. LA Chargers

Dean Spanos gambled with his move to LA and lost, sure he got a new stadium out of it, but sacrificed his fans and customers in doing it, with constant large away team crowds vastly outnumbering the few Charger fans that remain, this one’s a no brainer…

31. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars have struggled to draw ever since the shine of being the new team in town went away, and the winning went with it, they haven’t had to tarp off seats of late, but still have to, host a game in London every year to offset their fan support issues for this small market franchise…

30. Tampa Bay Bucs

Tampa had major issues with blackouts before the NFL did away with them, not making the playoffs for over a decade hasn’t helped them either in a state that struggles to draw for live sports…

29. LA Rams

The Rams had a history in LA, and that helps them over the Chargers, and so has the winning of late, but it’s fairly obvious that they take the backseat to the other sports (Dodgers, Lakers) in this city…

28. Arizona Cardinals

Arizona, like Florida has a lot of potential fans that are from somewhere else in the country, and thus are fans of teams other than the Cardinals, embarrassing invasions of opposing fans at their games of late can’t have this team too high on the list…

27. Houston Texans

The NFL’s newest team doesn’t necessarily have a bad fan base, but they have tough competition for fans in a state where the Cowboys rule, winning of late has helped this team with fans though…

26. Tennessee Titans

The Titans are a relatively new team in their market as they spent much of their history in Houston, this combined with a long playoff drought, and the fact that Nashville has a lot of residents/fans of other teams put the Titans at 26…

25. Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins have a relatively long history in south Florida and a lot of it being a winning history has helped this team over others in the state of Florida, however the lack of success in the 21st century hasn’t helped them at the gate or with growth…

24. Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals haven’t won a playoff game since the 90’s and the fan support shows, 5 straight playoff appearances of late didn’t inject much life into a Fan Base that also had several blackouts in the early 2010’s for what is probably more of a baseball town anyway…

23. Carolina Panthers

This team finding success and making it to 2 super bowls in its short history has helped. The Panthers continue to see a rise in popularity because of it…

22. Oakland Raiders

The Raiders are one of those teams with a somewhat national fan base, and the Black Hole has some of the NFL’s greatest fans, however Raider fans sure didn’t show up much in the last few years as Oakland had to tarp off thousands of seats at the Coliseum just to keep the place from looking so empty…

21. Detroit Lions

The Lions have a long history, and are Michigan’s only NFL team, the fans show up when they have a decent year, but otherwise this team has struggled with blackouts, attendance, and the balance sheet over the last 20 years, so the support isn’t all that consistent…

20. Washington Redskins

Washington has an ok fan base, but the lack thereof winning since the 90’s has taken its toll on its fans, and various seat reductions and tarping have been undertaken to reduce the capacity at FedEx field due to this.  Many fans seem to have lost hope in Dan Snyder fixing this team…

19. Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons felt the need to use fake crowd noise as they must have felt that the real fans must not have been enough, another ok fan base, but more so when there having a good year…

18. Indianapolis Colts

A somewhat spoiled by winning fan base, the support is very so so when things aren’t going well for the Colts…

17. New York Giants

Not much to say here, an average fan base…

16. New York Jets

A bit more of a vocal fan base, probably have less fans than the Giants, but a little more spunk…

15. Baltimore Ravens

They get into games and regularly are filling their stadium, winning on an almost regular basis and 2 Super Bowl wins in their short history have helped this teams Fan Base grow…

14. Chicago Bears

One of the decent fan bases of the Midwest, large city and following but not too much that sticks out with Bears fans…

13. Buffalo Bills

Decent following and a passionate fan base with the “Bills Mafia” traveling to away games regularly, small market though, and low attendance usually when winter comes around…

12. New England Patriots

Obviously the constant winning and winning of Super Bowls has extensively grown this teams Fan Base.  Boston, the team’s primary market, is still a Baseball-First city though…

11. Denver Broncos

The Broncos enjoy a large territory all to themselves being the only team in Colorado and the only team near several surrounding states, Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah etc., fans usually show up win or lose in Denver…

10. Seattle Seahawks

Another team that has dominance over a large region, being the only team in Washington, while no teams are in nearby Idaho, Montana, or Oregon either. The stadium atmosphere is second to none according to most as well…

9. San Francisco 49ers

A passionate Fan Base with a team with lot of history of winning that definitely has won over the Bay Area over the Raiders, one of the better Fan Bases…

8. New Orleans Saints

A passionate Fan Base of late, not so much historically.  The Saints are the only team in Louisiana and the only team near Mississippi, and much of Alabama, the fans have shown up well for the Saints in the Drew Brees era.  One must wonder how will they weather it when it’s over…

7. Minnesota Vikings

SKOL! The state of Minnesota has a strong passion for football, and the state rallies around this team.  This strong fan base doesn’t really have to share territory with other teams while their team wins semi consistently...

6. Dallas Cowboys

The large numbers in fans and on the balance sheet can’t be ignored, however Dallas sports a lot of Fair- Weather Fans just off of their popularity and ability to maintain constantly mediocre to ok play over the last 20 years…

5. KC Chiefs

The Chiefs are in a smaller Market than most, but have a very strong following and an even stronger stadium atmosphere much of the time, they are now Missouri’s only team which doesn’t hurt either, not to mention they draw from Kansas who has no NFL team in its borders…

4. Cleveland Browns

Call me biased, but Browns fans never give up hope and regularly fill their stadium despite 20 years of almost consistent losing.  Browns Backers clubs are all over the U.S. and parts of the world, and fans show up well in several opposing teams stadiums.  This teams fans are so passionate they threatened to sue the NFL when the league allowed Art Modell to move the team and it worked, as the league later gave the Browns back to Cleveland after a 3 year hiatus, the losing certainly doesn’t help but fans have stuck with their team well…

3. Philadelphia Eagles

Eagles fans are very passionate and are very vocal about their team, a large market helps as well, and a fairly consistent history of winning of late doesn’t hurt either.

2. Pittsburgh Steelers

Their numbers can’t be ignored and those terrible towels show up in large numbers at away games, a national fan base combined with a team that’s almost always above .500 makes this Fan Base large and very visible…

1. Green Bay Packers

The best football town there is, in visiting the city myself there is no city more encircled around their football team as Green Bay.  A national Fan Base, combined with being football passionate Wisconsin’s only NFL team all give the Packers many great fans, a long history of winning consistently doesn’t hurt either….
