The thing about Chip's offense...

The thing about Chip's offense...is once the novelty wears off and you look at it...it's nothing more than a sucker punch.  Yes Chip did some interesting work and came up with an efficient way to coordinate calling a play.  And yes I've loved it when it works..when the defense is winded the offense is marching down the field at will, the scoreboard is getting lit up, the fireworks at the Linc or firing away.  But if it wasn't my Eagles what would I really think about it..

Well the biggest advantage is that it catches the defense off guard.  So in a league that barely allows the defense to tackle my team is running an offense where the defense isn't allowed to switch personal either. If it were the Cowboys I know for a fact the whole city of Philadelphia would view the system as a gimmick.  And they'd be right.

Sorry but I like the idea of fair play more than I like cheap points.

I like the idea of two sides squaring up for the fight, not one side sneaking in jabs before the other side has even gotten into position.

I liked touchdowns more when they came from a hard fought drive down the field.

And I like my QB rallying his guys in the huddle, relaying the tactical information but also staring his men in the eye before the line up and put their bodies on the line.

But forget my preferences for more even play between offense and defense.  The fact I like it that 10 yards can seem so short when trying to stop a team, and so long when you need that first first down of the game.  Here's the condemning fact about the guys who like to get in sucker punches.  They will one day get into a fight with someone who is ready for it.  And when they do they'll be over matched and knocked down.  Am I  stretching the analogy too far...or is it striking at the truth....and the end of the day will Chip's offense ever have the real mettle to march down the field against the likes of a Seattle defense.  My gut says no.
