Peyton Manning should....do whatever he wants

Maybe I'm just being a contrarian but I just don't agree with the popular narrative of the great athlete who goes out on top.

To me, if a player, coach, GM, Lawyer, Doctor, teacher...whatever...if they win some award at the end of a year and happen to want to hang it up...great...that is a nice thing to have happen.

But if you aren't ready to 'hang them up' then don't.  Look, being the best at something is pretty cool from what I can tell...I've actually never been the best at anything.  But this notion of quitting something because you can say you left when you were the best....meh.

If you love doing something, and still have it in you to do it...then do it for as long as you can...because why not?  What else is there to do?  Peyton Manning at 50% can still drive an NFL team down the field for a few times a game.  How much fun is it to drive an NFL team down the field and score?  I don't know...I'll never get to do it.  And guess what, when Peyton retires, he'll never get to do it again either.

As long as your own decline doesn't crush you emotionally, as long as you still get a kick out of what you are able to do...do it.

Whatever Manning does I hope he doesn't the decision right after the season because that's when the passion will be at it's lowest.  I swear that's what tripped up Favre.  I'm too tired today so I guess I'll retire...well of course it's the end of the season.

I also hope he doesn't decide to show his manhood to some female reporter and to start making hokey commercials for jeans and copper wear.
