2008 Mock Draft UPDATED MONDAY, APRIL 30!

2008 NFL Draft Player Rankings now being posted!

  1. Oakland Raiders: Tony Ugoh, OT, Arkansas
The Raiders will need to protect JaMarcus Russell with some new offensive linemen and supply him with better receivers. Andrew Walter could be the greatest quarterback ever, and we wouldn't know it because Oakland's offensive line was so bad. Walter was getting sacked before the ball was even snapped.

  2. Detroit Lions: John Beck, QB, BYU
John Beck? Who the heck is John Beck? Once a sixth-round prospect, teams have suddenly fallen in love with the BYU passer, especially the Lions. Rumors are abound that Rod Marinelli and Matt Millen will pull the trigger early in the second round. By the way, there's a chance that four quarterbacks -- JaMarcus Russell, Brady Quinn, Trent Edwards and Beck -- will all go in the first round. Edwards and Beck are drawing tons of attention from multiple teams.

  3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Ryan Kalil, C, USC
If Jon Gruden wants to get his offense to its full potential, he'll fix the offensive line this offseason. Given his outstanding workout at the Combine, Kalil may not make it here.

  4. Cleveland Browns: Chris Houston, CB, Arkansas
The Browns will jump all over Chris Houston if he manages to slip this far. With Daylon McCutcheon and Ralph Brown gone, the Browns need help at cornerback.

  5. Chicago Bears: Ben Grubbs, G, Auburn
The Bears need a long-term plan at the guard position, where Ruben Brown is mulling retirement every offseason.

  6. Arizona Cardinals: Justin Blalock, G/OT, Texas
Spending your first two draft picks in the same area may sound absurd, but not if you're the Cardinals, who need to completely rebuild their weak front. Besides, Ben Grubbs is one of the top players available at this juncture.

  7. Atlanta Falcons: Anthony Gonzalez, WR, Ohio State
Love him, hate him or flipped off by him, Michael Vick doesn?t have the weapons at receiver to succeed. Drafting a player like Anthony Gonzalez could a big step to rectifying that problem.

  8. Miami Dolphins: Trent Edwards, QB, Stanford
Trent Edwards? draft stock is soaring and he could find himself in the first round by Draft Day. For now, Miami needs a young quarterback to groom while Trent Green presumably takes the reins for a year or two.

  9. Minnesota Vikings: Sidney Rice, WR, South Carolina
Minnesota's situation at receiver is so bad that some fans are clamoring for Randy Moss to come back. Ouch. Because they have only two receivers under contract next year, I can't see the Vikings passing up on a wide out at this point. It's a shame Sidney Rice didn't wait until the 2008 Draft; he could have been a sure-fire top-15 pick. I guess that's what happens when you listen to the wrong people. second round.

  10. San Francisco 49ers: Steve Smith, WR, USC
So, your starting wide receivers are Arnaz Battle and Ashley Lelie? Great. Much better than Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt, Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald, or Deion Branch and Darrell Jackson.

  11. Buffalo Bills: Brian Leonard, FB, Rutgers
This works on so many levels. Brian Leonard is a good-character guy, which Marv Levy likes. He can play both the halfback and fullback positions, which is great because Buffalo currently lacks the latter on its depth chart. Leonard will likely receive the bulk of the carries, saving Bills fans from watching Anthony Thomas and Shaud Williams handle the load.

  12. Atlanta Falcons: Anthony Spencer, DE, Purdue
Patrick Kerney is gone, so the Falcons have to do everything in their power to keep Chauncey Davis from starting.

  13. Carolina Panthers: Zach Miller, TE, Arizona State
Zach Miller could be an instant upgrade over Michael Gaines and Kris Mangum P.I. Now that offensive coordinator Dan Henning is out of the picture, I believe Carolina will go after a solid tight end to bolster the passing game.

  14. Pittsburgh Steelers: Tim Crowder, DE, Texas
Pittsburgh will be shifting to the 4-3 defense sometime soon, but the team currently lacks a traditional defensive end who can put pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

  15. Green Bay Packers: Craig Davis, WR, LSU
Green Bay needs help at receiver; there?s barely anything beyond Donald Driver and Greg Jennings. This pick is undoubtedly Zach Miller if he?s still on the board.

  16. Jacksonville Jaguars: Eric Weddle, SS, Utah
Eric Weddle can offer help at strong safety, where Donovin Darius seems to get hurt every year.

  17. Cincinnati Bengals: Justin Durant, OLB, Hampton
I?d be concerned if I were Justin Durant. Every linebacker the Bengals take seems to end up in jail or the injured reserve.

  18. Tennessee Titans: Marcus McCauley, CB, Fresno State
Roger Goodell rained on Pacman Jones? parade, suspending the dynamic cornerback for an entire season. That leaves a triumvirate of Nick Harper, Reynaldo Hill and Cortland Finnegan to cover the likes of Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne. Tennessee needs depth.

  19. New York Giants: Aaron Sears, OT/G, Tennessee
The Giants cut Luke Petitgout seconds after the Super Bowl and they haven't really found anyone to take his place. I figure they'll take the best offensive tackle or cornerback available in Round 2.

  20. St. Louis Rams: Turk McBride, DT, Tennessee
If the Rams can?t trade for Kris Jenkins, look for them to take Turk McBride. They need a defensive tackle; they haven?t been able to stop the run for years.

  21. Dallas Cowboys: Eric Wright, CB, UNLV
Dallas will now look to improve its secondary; Anthony Henry turns 31 soon, and the team will need to get younger there.

  22. Kansas City Chiefs: Josh Beekman, G, Boston College
Another offensive lineman? Well, the Chiefs need a bunch after losing Willie Roaf and Will Shields. Given that the top wide outs are off the board, Kansas City may look at Josh Beekman, who could take Will Shields' spot.

  23. Seattle Seahawks: Ikaika Alama-Francis, DE, Hawaii
With Chris Gray re-signed, I believe the Seahawks will spend a pick on a guard a little bit later in the draft. I've changed this selection to a defensive end because Seattle only has three on the entire depth chart.

  24. Denver Broncos: Charles Johnson, DE, Georgia
Perhaps Denver's greatest need this offseason is someone who can generate a consistent pass rush; no Bronco had more than 8? sacks in 2006.

  25. Philadelphia Eagles: Tanard Jackson, CB, Syracuse
With Rod Hood gone, the Eagles have very little depth behind Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown.

  26. New Orleans Saints: Aundrae Allison, WR, East Carolina
With Joe Horn gone, the Saints need a legitimate No. 2 to play across from Marques Colston.

  27. New York Jets: LaMarr Woodley, DE/OLB, Michigan
There are rumors abound regarding Jonathan Vilma's exodus from the Big Apple. If that happens, the Jets will be looking for a 3-4 outside linebacker; Vilma is more suited for the 4-3.

  28. Miami Dolphins: Daymeion Hughes, CB, California
The Dolphins acquired this pick in the Wes Welker trade. Their starting cornerbacks are Will Allen and Andre Goodman. I don?t think it gets much worse than that.

  29. Baltimore Ravens: James Marten, OT, Boston College
The Ravens have serious issues on their offensive front -- right tackle Tony Pashos is gone; left guard Jonathan Ogden is leaning toward retirement; while left guard Edwin Mulitalo just got cut. Baltimore must take the top lineman available.

  30. San Diego Chargers: Brandon Siler, ILB, Florida
Randall Godfrey, Donnie Edwards and Steve Foley are all gone. San Diego needs a few young, talented inside linebackers.

  31. New York Jets: DeMarcus Tyler, DT, N.C. State
With Kimo von Oelhoffen approaching Florida-retirement-home age, the Jets will be looking to draft a big defensive tackle who can help against the run; New York was ranked 26th in that category this year.

  32. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Quinn Pitcock, DT, Ohio State
The Buccaneers acquired this pick in the Anthony McFarland deal. I could see them using it on a possible replacement for the run-stuffer; they have zero depth behind Chris Hovan and Ellis Wyms.
