Round 1

Picks 17-32
17. Rams: Laiatu Latu, DE, UCLA

Rams get: Pick 17
Jaguars get: Picks 19 and 153 (R5)

Similarly to Jaelen Phillips from a couple of years ago, the medicals will be everything with Laiatu Latu, who medically retired from football before re-emerging at UCLA and doing a great job these past couple of years. If the medicals check out, Latu could find himself closer to the top 10 as he's arguably the most skilled and most polished pass rusher in the class. Adding him to Byron Young would give the Rams an excellent young EDGE duo on rookie contracts.

19. Jaguars: Charles Turner III, C, LSU

Pick is actually Jackson Powers-Johnson, C/OG, Oregon

Surprisingly, I didn't see Powers-Johnson amongst the listed prospects. Few did more to help themselves at the Senior Bowl than he did. The center position really let the Jaguars down in 2023, and drafting JPJ would ensure that doesn't happen in 2024. Some people feel like this is too high to draft a center, but I'm not one of them.

18. Bengals: Tyler Guyton, OT, Oklahoma

Moving Jonah Williams to right tackle didn't pan out, so the Bengals will look for an answer in the draft. Tyler Guyton largely did an excellent job at the Senior Bowl this week and seems to have solidly locked himself into first round status. The Oklahoma right tackle has been mentored by current Bengals and ex-Sooners tackle Orlando Brown Jr. Now they get to be teammates and have the responsibility of protecting Joe Burrow.

20. Steelers: Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia

Pittsburgh drafted Broderick Jones a year ago with some help from New England. Grabbing Amarius Mims at 20 could allow Jones to shift to his natural spot at left tackle. Mims is an absolute grader in the run game. He'll be a perfect fit in Pittsburgh and in the AFC North in general.

21. Dolphins: Troy Fautanu, G/OT, Washington

A deep offensive line class means even a team like Miami sitting at 21 can get a terrific prospect and Day 1 starter like Troy Fautanu. Some people feel like his best fit would be inside at guard, but others feel he could make it work at either tackle spot. Regardless, he'll be a major boon to a shaky Miami O-Line.

22. Cowboys: Jordan Morgan, OT, Arizona

Cowboys get: Pick 22
Broncos get: Picks 24 and 172 (R5)

Dallas feels like their Texas counterparts may want Jordan Morgan, so they deal a late fifth rounder to Denver to draft the Arizona left tackle for themselves. He's not the most physical guy, but Morgan moves his feet well and excels in pass protection.

23. Texans: Darius Robinson, DT, Missouri

Did Houston really want Jordan Morgan? We'll never know in this mock draft, but DeMeco Ryans won't be unhappy to add Darius Robinson to his defensive line. Robinson was a load at Senior Bowl practices, and he has the versatility to line up both inside and outside. He's especially hard to handle as an interior pass rusher on obvious passing downs.

24. Broncos: Bo Nix, QB, Oregon

Sean Payton won't want to go into 2024 without a viable option at the QB position. He and the Broncos front office worked the draft board well here in moving down three times and getting more bites at the apple before selecting Bo Nix here at 24. Nix doesn't have the best arm strength, but he is the type of QB Payton has had success with in the past.

25. Seahawks: Byron Murphy II, DT, Texas

Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald was hired to be the new head coach in Seattle. If the Seahawks aren't liking their options at QB here in Round 1, going defense makes as much sense as anything. Byron Murphy has the game to me Macdonald's Justin Madubuike, who really came on for the Ravens in 2023 under Macdonald's tutelage. Murphy has also drawn comparisons to Grady Jarrett.

26. Buccaneers: Chop Robinson, OLB/DE, Penn State

A few have drawn parallels between Robinson and Micah Parsons. Very high praise. Is he that, or is he more Odafe Oweh? Either way, I expect him to test very well at the combine and solidify first round status. YaYa Diaby was a nice third round pass rushing find last year, but the Bucs still need to add some more young juice to its pass rush.

27. Cardinals: Nate Wiggins, CB, Clemson

Great value for the Cardinals here towards the end of Round 1 with Nate Wiggins, who has the size, length and coverage ability to match up with any receiver.

28. Bills: Brian Thomas Jr., WR, LSU

Malik Nabers is not the only first round caliber WR LSU has in this draft class. Brian Thomas led the FBS in touchdown catches. His size and speed could be just what Josh Allen needs to go along with veteran receiver Stefon Diggs and Dalton Kincaid, who had a strong rookie season at tight end.

29. Lions: Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB, Alabama

Detroit came up just short of making the Super Bowl, but this season had Lions fans drinking the Kool-Aid. This selection would have further chugging that Kool-Aid. McKinstry would be an excellent selection this late in the first round and get the Lions help they need on the outside at corner.

30. Giants: Michael Penix Jr., QB, Washington

Giants get: Picks 30 and 93 (R3)
Ravens get: Picks 39 and 70 (R3)

Similarly to Laiatu Latu, medicals are going to mean the world for Michael Penix Jr., who missed a ton of time in college due to multiple serious injuries, including two ACL tears. Penix may check out as more of a second rounder because of his long injury history, but an interested team may want that fifth year option. Daniel Jones hasn't proven he's the answer under center, and Penix would get to reunite with Rome Odunze, which would only help his transition to the NFL.

31. Chiefs: Adonai Mitchell, WR, Texas

A.D. Mitchell would give the Chiefs offense a big receiver who has solid speed for his size and runs excellent routes. He also excelled in the biggest games on the College Football Playoff platform both at Texas and Georgia, so I can't imagine NFL playoff games will unnerve him. And if he's drafted by the Chiefs, he'll play in plenty of those throughout his NFL career.

32. Vikings: J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan

Vikings get: Pick 32
49ers get: Pick 42 (R2) and a 2025 3rd round pick

Kirk Cousins is a solid NFL quarterback, but he's not particularly reliable in the big games, will be 36 before the start of next season and is coming off a serious injury. Even if the Vikings bring him back in 2024, they should think about the long-term at the QB spot. Minnesota could be a good spot for him with targets like Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison to work with.
