Round 1
Calvin Ridley has hit free agency, and it's possible that he departs. If so, the need for a dynamic long-term WR for Trevor Lawrence becomes huge. If Ridley re-signs, I will change this pick.
Duke Tobin is a definite RAS guy, so if Mims is still there at #18, I see this as his floor.
Latu's 40 time wasn't scintillating, but if there's a team that doesn't care about that, it's the Rams. (Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua nod vigorously.) Quinyon Mitchell would have to be awfully tempting here if available, but he's not in this mock.
Latham could form a nice OT bookend, in time, with last year's 1st rounder, Broderick Jones. By the way, I'm guessing that Justin Fields ends up with the Steelers now. I thought Atlanta was the favorite, but the more I think about it, they've installed Zac Robinson as the new OC. Robinson was in LA with Raheem Morris on the Rams' staff, and as a Sean McVay disciple, I don't see Fields as a fit for the West Coast concepts that he will be running. (And as I said earlier, this is why Cousins makes sense for what Atlanta wants to do.) And I know that Pittsburgh is saying publicly that they are ready to run it back with Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph, which should draw a huge LOL from anyone that watches football. Perhaps they are just trying to act like they have a stronger negotiating position in relation to the Bears.
Fautanu might be able to stick at tackle, but if not, Miami could use him at a guard spot.
TRADE! Philly trades #22 to KC for #32, #95, and a 2025 2nd rounder.
Though the Eagles own two 2nd's this year, they do not have a pick in either the 3rd or 4th Rounds. This gets them back into the 3rd Round this year, and also the late 2nd next year, most likely.
As for what KC is up to here, look, they don't have a lot of holes on their roster, though WR and OT are two of them. This addresses one of those with the freakish Mitchell, who, unlike a lot of recent speed demon types that the Chiefs have had at WR, possesses actual size.
Jonathan Greenard is a possible free agent departure (though the Texans certainly have loads of cap space), and perhaps the freakishly-athletic Robinson could be a consideration for the club here.
Even if Tyler Smith is moved out to a tackle spot, Dallas needs another tackle since Tyron Smith is going to be allowed to walk, reportedly.
This makes 8 picks in the top 26 on OL. The Bucs have clear needs at iOL, particular at center, as Ryan Jensen is retiring. Powers-Johnson and Graham Barton are both in contention to be the first center off the board.
Harrison earlier in this mock helped the offense; now Jonathan Gannon could use somebody, anybody to help the defense, and Newton has dynamic DT potential.
Yes, Buffalo needs a receiver, but luckily this draft is loaded with them. Since the top 5 guys are gone, perhaps they will wait to add to the receiver room. And with the slew of veteran defenders that were released, the secondary needs some serious re-tooling.
The clear weakness of the Detroit defense is in its secondary, although Brian Branch was a draft hit from a year ago. How about another member of the Crimson Tide secondary, then?
Yes, Barton is a great center prospect. But he can also play guard, and with Tyler Linderbaum already in tow at center, the Ravens could choose to beef up their iOL in the wake of Kevin Zeitler's likely departure. Yep, just another solid player falling to the Ravens.
TRADE! San Francisco trades #31 to Las Vegas for #44 and a 2025 2nd rounder.
I don't know if the 49ers would take this trade, but I feel like Penix could end up in the 1st, as whichever QB-needy team still holding the bag could want to come back into this round to trade for him. In this case, the Raiders take the gamble that Penix can be the guy right away, as he will be a mature rookie with a laser for an arm.
Howie Roseman has invested a lot of early draft capital on DL/WR's. I just can't see Worthy's record-breaking 40 time not getting him into the 1st Round. And Philly is perilously thin at WR behind AJ Brown and Devonta Smith.
