Round 1

Picks 1-16
1. Bears: Caleb Williams, QB, USC

Whether you agree with it or not, it seems like the Justin Fields era is over. I think people need to stop overthinking Caleb Williams. He may not be the best QB prospect we've seen but in terms of playmaking ability and franchise-altering potential, he's up there for sure. We'll probably know more about this pick and the future of Fields in the coming weeks.

2. Commanders: Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU

I originally had Drake Maye in this spot until the hiring of Kliff Kingsbury. Here's a direct quote from Kingsbury himself: "When the money's on the table, you got to be able to make some plays with your feet [and] move around enough to escape a bad play...you better be able to move a little bit and buy yourself some time because the D Line, the [pass] rushers [and] the defenses these days are so good." I lean towards Jayden Daniels to fit this archetype rather than Drake Maye. I don't think the Commanders can make a wrong decision when it comes to those two however.

3. Patriots: Drake Maye, QB, North Carolina

This is what new head coach Jerod Mayo had to say about this pick: "What I will say is this: we’re gonna draft the best player for a position that is very important. You put the pieces together." You can take this two ways in my opinion, either he's talking about going best player available in Marvin Harrison and referring to the weak WR core that has plagued the Patriots for so long or he's simply talking about the QB position and replacing the incompetent Mac Jones. I'm going to say the Pats go QB here for right now especially if Drake Maye is on the board.

4. Cardinals: Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State

Best player available for the Cardinals here which happens to fill a big need. Marvin Harrison Jr. is as close to generational you can get in this draft and I think they luck out if the first three picks are QB's.

5. Chargers: Brock Bowers, TE, Georgia

Maybe a surprise to people but we need to leave behind the mindset of not taking players early due to their position especially if they're as talented as Bowers. This pick makes a lot of sense especially with the hiring of Greg Roman who loves to utilize his tight ends. This Chargers team needs playmakers to put around Justin Herbert and Jim Harbaugh knows what type of playmaker Bowers is after witnessing his play in the 2022 CFB Playoffs. Their history goes back even further when Harbaugh tried to recruit Bowers to Michigan. This pick just makes sense to me.

6. Giants: Malik Nabers, WR, LSU

It's no secret that the Giants probably preferred to be in a position to draft their QB of the future but with the top guys on I think they pivot to a longtime need which is their weak WR core. If they can't replace Daniel Jones, they should at least try to get him some weapons. It's a toss up for me when it comes to Malik Nabers and Rome Odunze but I think the Giants lean towards Nabers athleticism and playmaking abilities to fill their number one WR spot. I mean, last time the Giants drafted an LSU WR it worked out pretty well.

7. Titans: Joe Alt, OT, Notre Dame

I believe Ran Carthon is going to continue building the trenches through the draft especially coming from the 49ers front office. This offensive line was simply atrocious this past year and someone like Joe Alt could greatly improve the unit.

8. Falcons: Dallas Turner, OLB, Alabama

I know what you must be thinking: the Falcons drafting an EDGE rusher in the 1st round? It's definitely a possibility especially if they solve their QB problem before the draft through free agency or maybe a trade for Justin Fields. The outside linebackers of this team combined for a whooping 5.5 sacks so it's obvious this unit needs help.

9. Bears: Rome Odunze, WR, Washington

A passing attack with Caleb Williams, DJ Moore, Cole Kmet, and possibly Rome Odunze? To put it in simple words: sign me up. If it all pans out it's going to be hard stopping this offense.

10. Jets: J.C. Latham, OT, Alabama

This offseason for the Jets is all about surrounding Aaron Rodgers with as much help as he needs so they can not only start winning games but also not look stupid for the trade they made and how they handled the QB position these past couple of years. What I believe happens for the offensive line is Duane Brown and Mekhi Becton departing from the team this offseason. With the Packers cutting David Bakhtiari, I can see him filling that LT spot especially with his relationship with Rodgers. That leaves the right side of the line where I see Latham filling that hole where he's a natural fit.

11. Vikings: J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan

This is one of the picks when I made this mock where I told myself "This just makes too much sense." We know the Vikings have been trying to get a young QB on this roster and have someone take the reins from Kirk Cousins. They tried to trade up for Justin Fields in 2021, missed out on Brock Purdy in 2022, and drafted Jaren Hall last year. Obviously they haven't figured it out yet but with the selection of McCarthy, those problems could be over. In fact, it could be the perfect year to do this due to having a pick in the top half of the draft and Kirk Cousins coming back from an Achilles tear. GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and Jim Harbaugh have a history so that connection could figure into this selection. Darren Wolfson from KSTP reported that two QB's that the Vikings were doing work on back in November were Jayden Daniels and JJ McCarthy. Obviously Daniels won't make it to this spot but McCarthy will most definitely be available at this spot. I can't forget to mention that McCarthy fits Kevin O'Connell's play-action offense like a glove. What I think is going to happen right now is that Cousins comes back on a short term deal and McCarthy is going to be drafted to sit behind Cousins for a year or two to develop.

12. Broncos: Bo Nix, QB, Oregon

The Russell Wilson era was short lived but it seems like Sean Payton is ready to move on. Due to cap restrictions, the only way for the Broncos to make a play for a QB for the future is through the draft and Bo Nix makes a lot of sense here. I see Payton valuing Nix's experience at the college level and Nix's ability to process due to this experience. While Payton's dream this offseason is probably getting Baker Mayfield, he can get someone similar to him in Nix.

13. Raiders: Olumuyiwa Fashanu, OT, Penn State

Last year the Raiders wanted Paris Johnson until the Cardinals jumped in front of them to take Johnson themselves. I can see them going best player available and getting Olumuyiwa Fashanu to fill that void to improve their offensive line unit.

14. Saints: Laiatu Latu, DE, UCLA

The Saints pass rush desperately needs help after being nearly at the bottom in the league in sacks. Getting Laiatu Latu at this spot would be a steal.

15. Colts: Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo

I'm going to keep saying this every year for any Colts pick, Chris Ballard loves athletic traits. With there not being a consensus number one CB in this draft yet in my opinion, I think Quinyon Mitchell could seperate himself from the pack if he has a great combine which I expect him to.

16. Seahawks: Troy Fautanu, G/OT, Washington

A team that was rejuvenated by hope last year, I would say the future of the Seahawks is now a lot murkier going into this offseason. With a new coaching staff, I'm not really sure what direction they want to go in to be honest. If you look at the team needs though, one area that stood out to me was the offensive line. This unit has plagued the Seahawks for years and there was some hope with the additions of Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas but Cross's play fell off a bit last year, though he'll probably come back to good form, and Lucas dealt with multiple injuries. On top of potentially losing both starting guards in free agency, there's a lot of questions to answer with the offensive line. I think new offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb will push to add his former tackle Troy Fautanu and this could open up a number of possibilities whether it's starting Fautanu at guard or pushing Lucas to a guard spot. There's just too many investments into this offense to not make sure the line is solid in order for the offense to reach its full potential.
