Round 1

Picks 1-16
1. Bears: Caleb Williams, QB, USC

99.8% certain. No surprises here.

2. Commanders: Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU

60% certain. Jason Garrett nailed the breakdown of Daniels vs. Maye. The tape and level of competition don't lie. I've went back and forth here for some time.

A unlikely but interesting scenario that isn't being talked about is the Patriots trading up instead of down for the rights to draft Daniels. While Washington if they do prefer Maye slightly they can collect draft capital...and a player or two and still get a 50/50 shot at a Josh Allen lite.

I think Maye is a risky pick where Daniels is more of a sure and dynamic immediate impact player who still has yet to even grow into his frame.

A lot of people like how Maye talks and his back story but neither talking or your personal life win you football games or make you a franchise QB. I'm not saying he can't develop into one and I'm not saying in the right situation (aka Minnesota) he won't thrive day 1. But as far as the Commanders and Patriots are concerned my gut and history tell me teams that aren't ready for a high upside QB with major boom/bust potential... more often than not ruin a young QB... but if that QB goes to the right team with a healthy coaching staff management and roster like Mahommes to Chiefs or Wilson to Seahawks or Aaron Rodgers to Packers or Allen to Bills or Mayefield's resurgence with the Buccaneers or Lamar Jackson to John Harbaugh's Ravens... those scenarios worked bc great potential met a healthy environment.

How many countless times do teams take great potential that have toxic environments or environments that are multiple years away and those really talented QBs never quite develop or altogether bust.

That's why Daniels goes here and the Patriots who are at least a year away are logical and intelligent enough of upper management and coaching to identify that they woukd benefit more from drafting a qb later collecting much needed draft capital and building out a roster that will be a much healthier bunch to bring a franchise QB in to thrive immediately in 2025 after countless failed experiements. Kraft Mayo and co know history enough to collect much needed draft capital and trade off of a high 3rd overall pick while the Vikings pay for the opportunity to seize the day bc all they are is a QB and few defensive players away from contention...so for them to make the move for Maye makes a lot more sense for everyone involved...and will be the exact kind of situation Maye has the best opportunity to thrive from day 1.

3. Vikings: Drake Maye, QB, North Carolina

*TRADE ALERT* 75% Certain. Patriots need draft capital and have to rebuild there entire roster under Mayo and co. Jacoby is underrated and overlooked. He should be given the chance to legitimately start at least this season with Mayo regime. The Patriots need a QB much less than what the media is making it look like... Zappe came in and gave quality starts last season. QB is NOT an URGENT need for the Patriots. I actually think if they stay and Daniels is off the board they should - again if they don't trade down - they should pass on Maye and draft what is a generational talent in Marvin Harrison Jr. here.

But nonetheless, the Vikings are high on Maye and see Sam Darnold as a QB2 that can spot start and teach Maye how to transition as a highly touted college prospect that will be a high first round pick like Darnold was into a top 16 starter in the NFL. The Vikings have a stacked roster and would allow Maye even if he's a year away to maximize his success right out of the gate. The Patriots can't do that and would ruin Maye at the moment where the Vikings are the best environment for Maye to maximize his talent.

So I'm very high on a trade down for the Patriots and a trade up for the Vikings here. It just makes way, way too much sense for both teams.

6. Giants: J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan

60% certain. No brainer - IF MCCARTHY IS AVAILABLE AT 6...THATS A BIG IF AS OF TODAY...THE GIANTS WOULD LITERALLY BE OUT OF THERE HEADS TO MISS OUT ON A FRANCHISE CHANGING OPPORTUNITY... Believe the hype or not he is a winner and carries his game with passion and swagger all of which you can't teach and for a long time since the days of Eli Manning Michael Strahan and co has been missing from this locker room...A born leader with all the intangibles of a franchise QB meets the right situation at the right time.. Daniel Jones is a sub par injury prone passer with above average legs and at this point is better off starting fresh on another team. This scenario also gives the Giants an opportunity to sit McCarthy for a year or two if they believe that's what's best...If Jones goes down and history says more when than if...JJ will get his chance to shine on the only stage he has yet to win on... Perfect scenario and marriage of team and QB. GIANTS MY PSA TO YOU...DON'T OVERTHINK AND DON'T PASS THIS OPPORTUNITY TO POSTIVELY IMPACT YOUR CULTURE AND RESTABLISH A WINNING DYNAMIC THAT HAS ALLUDED BOTH NY TEAMS FOR QUITE A FEW YEARS NOW..

11. Patriots: Malik Nabers, WR, LSU

60% certain. *STEAL OF THE DRAFT #1* BPA. Patriots fans go absolutely nuts if this scenario actually happens where they trade out of 3 to get Nabers at 11 which would be the steal of the draft. The Patriots land their best WR since Randy Moss and Wes Welker were catching passes from Tom Brady. What a pick this would be to jump start the rebuild.

23. Patriots: Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo

100% certain. *STEAL OF THE DRAFT #2* In OG Pats fashion the Patriots evade drafting and ruining Boom/Bust maybe a year away Maye to land him in a better situation with the Vikings. While drafting two immediate impact starters one on offense and the other defense. Nabers/Mitchell and a 2025 first round pick is an A++ haul for a roster in desperate need of a rebuild and passing on Maye who is intriguing but surrounded with question marks and too risky a pick to mess up on at 3rd overall at this point. The Pats find a way to begin the rebuild the Patriot way and get two future superstars plus an extra rd1 pick in 2025. In addition to getting the highest first round grade in terms of selection value and prospect drafted look for further quality decision making at the end of round 2 via trade up or at the top of the 3rd round with the selection of the intriguing Spencer Rattler out of South Carolina to give them an above average low risk stable of QBs to work with until they draft a franchise QB when they're roster and team are actually ready for one in 2025... and who knows Rattler might be the next Brock Purdy or Russell Wilson going later but outshining there draft position. One of Brissett/Zappe/Rattler to Nabers could make one of those 3 QBs look like a franchise QB.

13. Bears: Olumuyiwa Fashanu, OT, Penn State

25% certain. Bears move down with the Raiders, save money, gain picks and select Caleb Williams Gonzaga College Highschool teammate to be his blind side savior in Chicago. DA BEARS!

12. Steelers: Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo

*TRADE ALERT* Steelers trade up with the Broncos and give up 20th, 98th and 119th and a 2025 round 3 pick to jump 8 spots to take the top player on there draft board. Broncos give up 12th pick and Courtland Sutton. The Steelers make a splash much like they did for Polamalu for a shutdown future superstar to play opposite of Joey Porter Jr. Finally the Steelers have the best secondary in the AFC since Tomlin and the Steelers won a Super Bowl way back in 2009 and add Russell Wilson's familiar weapon and a consistent quality WR2 all in one swoop. Great trade for both teams.

4. Cardinals: Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State

75% certain. My favorite player in the draft. Ask former NBA great Rasheed Wallace what he thinks of his dad...paraphrasing... but he basically said 'Sr. could have been a HOF NBA player like he was a HOF NFL player' now imagine HOF Marvin Harrison Sr. but a taller bigger faster stronger and more talented NFL ready WR with a higher ceiling. This is the best WR to come out since Jamar Chase and is as NFL ready as it gets.

5. Chargers: Joe Alt, OT, Notre Dame

60% certain. Harbaugh attempted to recruit Joe Alt out of High School. He knows the generational 1 sack allowed talent that is right there for the taking. He wont miss on him this time around. This is a deep draft at WR as well as OL and while there is only 1 Odunze and Nabers...the same can be said for the Best OT available. Protect Herbert for the next decade. Joe Alt is most sensible pick here to sure up the blind side of the Harbaugh regime's franchise QB.

8. Falcons: Dallas Turner, OLB, Alabama

60% certain. Best Defensive Player Available and exactly what the Falcons have needed since Vic Beasley.

7. Titans: Brock Bowers, TE, Georgia

40% certain. One of the 5 BPA here and a dynamic TE the best they've had since the late Frank Wycheck for Levy if Alt is off the board. This pick would give the Titans there most complete offense even after losing Derek Henry to the Ravens. Levy would have Hopkins, Ridley and Bowers with an above average line and run game. This pick puts them right back in the mix.

9. Raiders: Michael Penix Jr., QB, Washington

*TRADE ALERT* 60% certain. No brainer. What NFL Networks guru doesn't seem to understand is that the Broncos and in my mock the Patriots could steal Penix from the Raiders before 13. Even if its not likely both teams could use his services and so the Raiders move up slightly in 1st rd pick swap with Bears. Bears could go Nabers or Odunze here but will trade down for best OL available at 13, get Aiden O'Connell to backup Caleb Williams and extra picks in 2025. While the Raiders pounce at the opportunity to get a franchise QB and would be absolutely cray cray to pass on who when all is said and done could be the best or 2nd best QB in this draft. Raiders go and get the next best QB on the board. Gardner Minshew is the perfect backup that is starter ready for Penix Jr. and that leaves the opportunity for Aiden O'Connell to get a fresh start and backup the new franchise QB in a better offense "on paper" in Chicago.

10. Jets: Rome Odunze, WR, Washington

50% certain. This is a coin flip and about fit... Nabers or Odunze... J-E-T-S choose the Washington enigma Imagine a league where Aaron Rodgers sees Garrett Wilson covered and checks to Mike Williams and then on his third read goes over the top to a future superstar in Rome Odunze. Yikes. Want to win now this a sure fire way to put the Jets back on the map. Easily a top 5 offense paired with a top 5 defense that's a championship recipe.

14. Saints: Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo

60% certain.

15. Colts: Jared Verse, DE, Florida State

40% certain. GREAT VALUE PICK. Top 10 talent. Colts take BPA here. Immediate impact pro bowl caliber edge rusher. Remember when the Colts had a player the caliber of Dwight Freeney...Freeney lite with 2.0 upside has arrived. They could also go Terrion Arnold or Laiatu Latu here as well.
