Umm - Shouldn't Everyone Where the Guardian Helmets all the Time

Upon seeing the oversized guardian helmet in an NFL game the obvious question arrives.  "Well, as goofy as that oversized helmet looks, making me think momentarily I'm looking at a halftime show of pee wee footballers making the most of their 10 minutes on the field, works to protect the brains of the player...shouldn't they all be wearing them?"

Now I can imagine if Taylor Swift said something like this there'd be yet another civil war brewing in this county between NFL traditionalists and Swifties (Smart money says the Swifties win that one by a wide margin where the NFL folks tap out in the first quarter).  But its a pretty obvious question.  So I tried to find takes by Stephen A or Wilson or Kornheiser on the google machine but couldn't find it.  Did find Watt saying he wouldn't wear them but other players with brains could if that's what their brains want.  Oddly the obvious somehow remains unsaid.  The US has a lot of that going on.  Well...things get said but if a tree falls on Joe Rogan in a forest does a radical-environmentalist-CNN-watcher hear the noise? (only enough to wish it to be cancelled)  But I digress.

Guardian helmets seem like they should be on every player.

And I wonder if the choice was easing up on the illegal hit rules but everyone wears a large helmet what would the average fan want?

But I do get the aesthetic is off.  The current helmets look much cooler for sure and where would one stop?  Shouldn't I be wearing a guardian helmet now?  And shouldn't all of our cars simply have larger bumpers?  Why isn't the entire plane made out of what they make the black box out of?  Or why doesn't the entire plane have its own parachute?  What are we doing us creatures with these brains of ours? How is it there is so much worry in the world and yet the second 'mom' isn't looking we're off playing games like waive the sticks at each others eyes?

I don't have the answers but wanted to share and hear from others.

Thanks

**Subject: Thoughts on Guardian Helmets in the NFL**

Upon seeing those oversized Guardian helmets in an NFL game, the obvious question pops up: *“As goofy as that helmet looks—like I’m watching a halftime show of pee wee footballers squeezing every second out of their 10 minutes of fame—if it actually protects players’ brains, shouldn’t they all be wearing them?”*

Now, imagine if Taylor Swift weighed in with a comment like this. It wouldn’t take long for yet another civil war to break out—this time between NFL traditionalists and Swifties. (Smart money’s on the Swifties, by the way. They’d have the NFL crowd tapping out before the first quarter ends.) But let’s be real—it’s a fair question.

Curious, I hit the Google machine, hoping for some hot takes from the likes of Stephen A., Russ, or Kornheiser. No luck. The best I could find was J.J. Watt saying he wouldn’t wear one but that other players could, “if their brains want to.” Classic Watt. Still, the obvious question remains unaddressed.

This seems to be a theme in the U.S.—the unsaid, or worse, the unheard. Sure, things get said, but it’s a bit like the old riddle: *If a tree falls on Joe Rogan in a forest, does a radical-environmentalist-CNN-watcher hear it?* (Answer: Just enough to want it canceled.) But I digress.

The point is, Guardian helmets *seem* like a no-brainer. If they really do what they’re supposed to, why aren’t they standard for everyone?

Which leads me to another thought: what if the NFL eased up on illegal hit rules but mandated these helmets for all players? Would the average fan go for that trade-off?

I get that the aesthetic is a hurdle. The current helmets look undeniably cooler. And where does it stop? Should I be wearing a Guardian helmet right now while typing this? Should all our cars just have giant bumpers?

We’re funny creatures, us humans, with our big, fragile brains. I don’t have the answers, but I figured I’d share my musings and hear what others think.

Looking forward to your thoughts,
