Looking at Bradford trade

Philadelphia spent a lot of the offseason trying to move Sam Bradford. While teams like the Broncos and Browns were interested, nothing could ever get finalized. Now the details of the trade executed this morning (3 September 2016) included the Vikings sending their 2017 first round pick and a fourth round pick in 2018 to the Eagles for Quarterback Sam Bradford. Bradford will be welcomed by former offensive coordinator and now Tight Ends coach Pat Shurmur and college teammate Adrian Peterson, who also led the league in rushing last year.

There are a couple things to remember, right off the bat, Philadelphia already has their new starter in place. Chase Daniels, who the Eagles acquired in the offseason, already knows new head coach Doug Pederson’s offense very well, as he’s been running it the past couple years in Kansas City. He has also been taking snaps all offseason and preseason and has an established rapport with the team.

Look for the Eagles to rely on the run game like always and a lot of short crossing routes and tight end passes. New coach Doug Pederson likes the involvement of the tight end in the offense. Look for Zach Ertz to have a big role in the offense early in the season.

The Vikings, on the other hand, have a very different road ahead of them. Bradford is going to have a couple practices and 8 days to get the playbook down. The Vikings are going to feature a lot of Adrian Peterson and Jerick McKinnon in the running game and a lot of safe short passes in the passing game.  Bradford is not going to be asked a lot of, more to just protect the ball while only using maybe 30-40 percent of the playbook the first few games.
